RE: Where to Camp Glamis

What kind of rig do you have? That will dictate on where to camp in the washes.
The lower the wash number, the more you'll hear the train horn. On off weekends and weekdays, the train hardly ever blows it horn away from the train crossings.
I have a WW FSC3200 with a F350 4X CB Long Bed.. 59feet total How dose it dictate, will I have to park in the soft sand or will I not be able to turn around or what other problems?
Thanks
I know Wash 2,3 and 11 will be no problem for you.
I just haven't been to the others to know or not.

RE: Where to Camp Glamis

Nope not over Halloween. I am leaving in 3 days. PRETTY EXCITED ... Trains all night!! THAT SUCKS!!
If it is that busy at Halloween dose that mean it won't be that busy next weekend??
It is going to be warm this weekend. 104 this week in Phoenix. Take plenty of gas for the genny and water.
Yep, the weekend before and after Halloween will be fairly quiet.
I am going 2 weeks before Halloween and then the weekend after Halloween.

RE: Where to Camp Glamis

Broc, when you going? i always stay at the flats but that's because that is where my group camps. I don't know much about the Washes but I have ridden thru them.
Steve
We are going on the 26 and staying until the 1st. What do you mean the "Flats"? Is that the same as Cement flats on Gecko Road? Where do all the vendor set up..? Is the hole place like a 24hour party?
Sorry everyone for all the questions, thats for all the answers.....
Those dates, are those over Halloween?
If so, it won't matter where you stay, it will be crazy that weekend.
There are vendors right across from Cement flats and there are vendors behind the store.
The trains run all night and blow their horns whenever they come by.

RE: Hurricane Fuel Prices

Gas and Diesel went up here like 6 cents a gallon but has come back down since.
Another example of media hype getting people to panic.

RE: What TH can I pull with my Titan?

WOW this thread went down hill faster than a Ford Ranger towing a 5th wheel
Hey, don't be a Ranger hater ! I tow a 16,000 lb FW with my Ranger and it does fine, even up and down moutain passes in Colorado. Sure, I had to mount the hitch behind the rear axle and it's a little hard to steer because the front wheels aren't usually touching the ground, but if I plan ahead I can make the turns. I put a train horn for coming down the mountains and I just lay on that the whole way down so everyone gets out of my way. :B
Just put airbags on that Ranger and you are good to go....

RE: What TH can I pull with my Titan?

I own a Titan, and let me tell you, it pulls like nobody's business. I have a 16' Carson, plus my Teryx at 1,200 lbs, and miscellaneous equipment and supplies. It's probably right around 8000lbs. The Titan pulls it like its not even there (well, except for on 10%+ grades).
So you're loading a TH with a GVWR of 7000lbs to 8000lbs and towing it with a truck that has a factory tow rating of 6800lbs (according to one of your previous posts)
I prefer to stay on the other side of the max line.
And you are quoting ratings based on a stock truck.... Look at his sig, lift, big tires..... that all changes things in regards to towing, and usually not for the better.....

RE: Attitude weight

My buggy is 2900 lbs. I did find the weight sticker in the trailer, it's 11,170 unladen according to Eclipse.
That is probably pretty close.
My unlade weight is 11,600lbs. Not my sticker, that weight is from a CAT scale.

RE: '39 WW & 2005 GMC 2500 HD

You will be wayyyyy over all of your tow ratings of the truck.
Will the truck do it? Yes.
It is your decision if you want to tow over what the truck is rated for.

RE: Goodyear Marathons-good news&bad news

as of 6/2/08 NHTSA has some new rules regarding more GVWR on RV trailers/MHs:
(Editor's Note: S10 through S10.5.2 will be added effective June 2, 2008.)
S10. Each motor home and recreation vehicle (RV) trailer must meet the applicable requirements in S10.
S10.1 On motor homes, the sum of the gross axle weight ratings (GAWR) of all axles on the vehicle must not be less than the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR).
S10.2 On RV trailers, the sum of the GAWRs of all axles on the vehicle plus the vehicle manufacturer’s recommended tongue weight must not be less than the GVWR. If tongue weight is specified as a range, the minimum value must be used.
this forces manufactors to use larger capacity axles. Larger capacity axle come with 6 and 8 lug wheels which should make the 5 lug 15" wheels obsolete on the heavier units, hopefully
My trailer came with 15" 6 lug wheels from Warrior.

Another vote of stepping up to a 16" setup.
Michelin XPS Rib or Goodyear.
Then you won't have to worry about blow outs any more.

RE: elongated hole on pin

I ran the Reese Tow Beast hitch when I had my FS3000 Warrior. 2 different hitches had the holes elongate.
I did use the pins with the L on them, but both sides of the hitch had elongated holes and I always put the pin in the same way.

RE: RZR S…Who is getting one? Who has one?

Your right Linc on the sand car. Since this is for my Wife, she needs an auto tranny. She has lots of seat time in Rhinos and really likes them. I am thinking the “S” because it has pretty decent suspension and I will be less tempted to modify it. If I can leave it stock then reliability should stay pretty good.
It is a lot of money for a glorified go-cart but this is the cost to play these days.
Ben
Auto and for the wife, then that is a good call Ben.
I think it is smart to look at this, it doesn't need any mods.

I was talking to a buddy about this last night, for that price, you can get a mid travel 4 seat sand rail in this market.
Don't get me wrong, the machine is bad arse, Polaris did it right.

RE: F450's owners

I must say I would be completely happy if I got 14 mpg while not towing. If Ford would come out with an kit to replace the 4.88's I might go for it. I wonder if you must replace the carrier when going with the higher gears?
On another note, I am traveling through Oregon (I was in Springfield, Hi 66stang351 I'm sure I drove right by your place) on my way to Brookings. I noticed a growling noise coming from the engine. I pulled over and saw a small puddle under the truck, on furter inspection I I found a fitting next to the fire wall on the drivers side that was leaking power steering fluid. The only thing I can figure is I drove out of a very steep driveway flexing the frame of the truck in turn flexing the fitting either causing it to crack the tube or tearing the o-ring in the fitting. I made it as far as Coos Bay where I will take it to the Ford Dealer tomorrow. My problem with this is I had the radiator problem where the frame flexed and cracked some the seams of the radiator. The truck seams prone to this kind of problem. What is next? :M
The frame flex on a F450??? Wow, I find that hard to believe.
